Position Description

The Coast Guard CBRN-D Radiation Detection Level II Instructor will provide on-site instruction and subject matter expertise for the USCG CBRN-D Program in Charleston, SC.  Including classroom instruction, practical application, and team-based practical scenarios aboard a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) training vessel. The instructor will prepare students to be qualified to instruct other USCG personnel in conducting Level I Radiation Detection operations. All courses are 3 days in duration. The instructor will administer pre-course and post-course written tests, present graduation certificates, and submit non-completion records, as appropriate, for each course.

A successful candidate must demonstrate a clear understanding of USCG boardings and inspections (ashore and afloat) as a means to detect and intercept illicit radioactive materials before they enter the United States. The instructor will use a National Layered Defense Concept to provide personnel the knowledge and skills required to achieve Radiation Detection Program goals set forth by CG-DOD-2.

The CBRN-D Field Instructor will provide classroom instruction and practical application of the Polimaster Personal Radiation Detector (PRD), Sensor Technology Engineering RADPACK, ICX/Target Identifinder-U, and HPRDS Communication Package (HCP).

The selected applicants may be subject to a background investigation to meet eligibility requirements for employment.

Hire is contingent on government contract award.

Required Skills

• Ability to travel extensively in support of the training mission

• Maintain good physical fitness

• Ability to walk, stoop, and bend

• Frequently lift items weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds

• Speak fluent English

• Pass a background check.

Required Experience

• Must possess a minimum of 5 years experience as a Coast Guard or Navy Subject Matter Expert in the CBRN-D, an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from another military service (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps), or equivalent experience and education in the civilian sector. Experience aboard a variety of floating and shore units is preferable.

• Knowledgeable in radiation detection and hazardous situations scenarios.

• A minimum of 2 years experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training, preferably with a Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) certification or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code.

• Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and computer graphics programs.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
